When designing Thornberry Altar, I kept thinking of the sacredness of self and how many times I had not kept guard of my precious personal being.  How I had let people in too early and found betrayal and hurt and gossip.  I learned that we are like wild brambleberries: precious, nourishing, beautifully alive.  But we need to be like the berry-- surrounded by thorns for good reason---  Only those who are gentle, respectful, safe and careful earn the right to reach the fruit.  The thorns do not hide the sweetness they protect it.
